Social eJ started as a place to publish stories that local media wasn't telling. It grew into a resource directory, a calendar, a bookshelf, and a set of long-term projects, because people kept asking the same question after reading: okay, but where do I go?
Our mission
To make help findable and to make progress visible. That means keeping an honest, current directory of support; telling stories with the people in them rather than about them; and building the physical things a neighborhood needs — housing, gardens, a place to rest.
How we're funded
Individual donations, local partnerships, and commercial work through eJ Productions, our film and photography division. Production revenue subsidizes the community work, which is why the two sides of this site look so different.
What we believe
Dignity first
People are not case files. Everything we publish or build has to hold up if the person it's about reads it.
Say the real phase
We publish where projects actually stand, including the slow parts. Trust is worth more than momentum.
Free at the point of need
Resources, workshops and referrals cost nothing. Donations and production work fund the rest.
Local before scale
We would rather change one block completely than touch twenty of them lightly.
