The first year I lived on this block, I knew two names. By the third, I knew almost every door and who behind it needed a ride on Thursdays.

Community is not built at ribbon cuttings. It is built by the people who keep coming back with folding chairs and a thermos.

Showing up is not a grand gesture. It is a Tuesday habit.

What changed for me was small: I started saying yes to the things I would previously have called inconvenient. A ride. A shared meal. Ten minutes on a porch.
